Romanian media giant fallen into disgrace
The Romanian media giant Sorin Ovidio Vintu has fallen in a temporary disgrace and been arrested. The prosecution accuses him of having supported a businessman who was searched for. Vintu who had defrauded thousands of Romanians of their savings in the nineties was not prosecuted then, because this investment fund fraud was organized by an army of former Securitate officers, police officers and secret service people. Therefore he was protected and tolerated by the government. The newspaper "Romania libera" (free Romania) writes: "S. O. Vintu not only is a representative of the system, he actually is the system." His arrestment suggests the assumption that somebody has broken out of the system of the Mafia, which is remarkable.
